If we continue

Been a while since I wrote, mostly because in the past seven weeks I have been away on four trips.

And partly because I have been reading in Job, listening to the “miserable counsellors” argue with Job.

(I’m not much one for arguing.)

This is where we left off in Colossians:

And you, who once were alienated and hostile in mind,

doing evil deeds,

he has now reconciled in his body of flesh by his death,

in order to present you holy and blameless

and above reproach before him,

if…

Col 1:21-23a

Today, we continue onward from the “if”…

if indeed you continue in the faith, stable and steadfast,

not shifting from the hope of the gospel that you heard

Col 1:23a-b

Some interpret that to say, if you don’t continue in the faith, you were never saved to begin with.

Others opt for, if you lose your faith that saved you, you lose your salvation.

We could choose to argue about it, but we are here merely to muse.

Personally, I choose to concentrate on Paul’s three S’s: I want to be stable, steadfast, and unshifting.
