Resistant faith

In my mind, a fine line is being crossed as Peter writes about resisting our adversary.

Usually, we read of Satan in conjunction with temptation. But in 1 Peter 5.9, the deceiver is bringing on suffering, suffering that followers of Jesus in all the world are experiencing.

The fine line that is fuzzy in my mind here is that is seems to me that suffering is usually associated with persecution, not temptation. Not exactly apples and oranges, but, rather, tangerines and mandarins.

So, apparently, part of Satan’s devouring plan (5.8) is to bring on suffering. And in that suffering, or during that suffering, we are to resist, with a firm faith?

Resist him, firm in your faith, knowing that the same kinds of suffering are being experienced by your brotherhood throughout the world.

1 Peter 5.9

On second thought, let me drop my previous question mark.

And in that suffering--or during that suffering--we are to resist, with a firm faith.
