The sinful chosen

God is madder than a hornet in Jer/15.1, and He surprises us with:

“Even if Moses and Samuel stood before me, yet my heart would not turn toward this people. Send them out of my sight, and let them go!”

He’s fed up!

But the Moses/Sam thing, where’d that come from?

If I were the sinful chosen looking for someone to advocate on my behalf, I think I would go for Abraham. He did quite the used-car-salesman thing with God, on the road to Sodom. “Well, if there happens to be 50 good guys, will you spare the town? How about 45, 40, 30, 20 10? That almost worked!

Yet, it seems that God is saying here that Mo and Sam are the two who have set the bar the highest, as far as integrity and holiness go.

Me, I would have proposed Joseph. That man never ceases to impress me, he came through time and time again.

Or David. Sure, he hit a bump or two along the way but always came back on his knees.

Hey, but now that I think about it, I am the sinful chosen. And I do not want Moses or Samuel, not even Joseph or David.

I have Jesus.

That’s all the advocating a man like me could need.
