The disciples were surprised when they saw Jesus talking to the lady.

“What’s up with Jesus, talking to that slut?” (4.27)

These guys, at this point, didn’t know Jesus very well.

I dare say that if Jesus’ brother, James, had been there—even though he was not a follower yet—he would not have been surprised at all.
