Opening up again to Jeremiah and the potter, what catches my eye today is that God sets up a time and place with the prophet… first go there, and once you get there, I will tell you what I have to say.

“Arise, and go down to the potter's house, and there I will let you hear my words.” (Jer 18.1)

Makes me think of Abraham in Genesis 12. God told him, “Start walking, and I will tell you when you get there.”

Abraham hears similar gps-less instructions in chapter 22. “I want you to go kill your son on a mountain, head north, and I will tell you when to stop.”

We think we ought to get the big picture, details included. God doesn’t always do things that way. “Your word is a lamp unto my feet," it is not high beams on my Hummer as I drive through the night.

One step at a time.

I wonder how many times we miss what God is wanting to tell us, just because we didn’t consider step one important enough to follow through on.
