Junk in our heads

We read about slick talkers in 2.4, and here they are again four verses later,
aiming to put your mind on another track,
with their silvery tongues,
See to it that no one takes you captive by philosophy
and empty deceit,
according to human tradition,
according to the elemental spirits of the world,
and not according to Christ.
Col 2.8
The “elemental spirits” part
does not seem to be indicating demonic beings or spirit influences,
according to what I see in the Greek.
So I say, let’s not put the blame on the those doing the talking.
I think us doing the listening need to be responsible for what we are listening to,
how we filter it,
and what we are letting happen in our heads.
We have the mind of Christ.
Man alive,
how can we possibly allow ourselves to herded away for enslavement,
by what we hear?
Thoughts do not take us captive.
Al contraire, we take thoughts captive.
For the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh
but have divine power to destroy strongholds.
We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God,
and take every thought captive to obey Christ,
2 Corinthians 10.4-5
I will get off my preacher’s soapbox.
