"I have a good idea"

Jumping down two generations from yesterday:

Rachel was barren.

Gen 29.31

When Rachel saw that she bore Jacob no children, she envied her sister.

She said to Jacob, “Give me children, or I shall die!”

Gen 30:1

That is taking the buck-stops-here to a whole whole level.

Jacob accused Rachel of playing dirty:

Am I in the place of God, who has withheld from you the fruit of the womb?”

Gen 30:2

So she, like Sarah before her, had a brainstorm:

“Here is my servant Bilhah; go in to her,

so that she may give birth on my behalf,

that even I may have children through her.”

Gen 30:3

And things went from bad to worse,

as they tend to do,

when we think we have a better idea,

than what He’s told us.
