Busy making peace

Jesus is still speaking plain on the mount…

Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God.

Like I used to say when I was a hippie, “Peace.”

That was when I knew no peace.

What a startling paradox!

Jesus is not saying here that people become sons of God by being peacemakers

(we become children of God by being grace-partakers).

Rather, He is saying, blessed are the peacemakers,

that is what children of God are busy doing—making peace.

We have peace with God once we have become partakers of that more-than-amazing grace.

We become reconciled with Him with whom we were at war.

And once reconciled, we become a people who are reaching out to others—near and far—that they be reconciled to God (2 Cor 5.20), that they may know peace.

We lead those who live in war, to know peace, peace indeed.

We live life with a purpose.
